A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Rosi Nyamakanga trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, gaining a 1st class B.A. Hons in Printed Textiles under Norma Starszakowna and went on to achieve an M.A. Degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. She then established her own business producing bespoke screenprinted and handpainted fabrics which sold in Harvey Nichols, Harrods, and Art gallery museum shops in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Rosi also lectured in Art schools and colleges in the north of England.
The wandering spirit and a need to explore the world took her to the East coast of Spain to paint and teach for a couple of blissful years before she took up the post of Head of Textile Design at Mupfure College in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa. This involved establishing and running textile design departments in a variety of college campuses with the aim of developing skills and empowering students with the tools to create and run their own businesses. Rosi curated many exhibitions of her own and students’ work whilst in Africa.
On returning to Scotland, Rosi taught Art and Design for a number of years in secondary and primary schools whilst establishing herself as an emerging artist exhibiting in the UK. She now runs painting workshops and takes on private clients and painting commissions.
